Morgan's been a pretty good eater lately, but like many 4 year olds, she preferred junk to health food. Well, I read this book to Morgan last week and now she is the family nutrition police.
The book puts food in three categories: Green-light foods help you grow and GO so you can eat as much of them as you like. Yellow light foods will make you SLOW DOWN if you eat to much. And red-light foods do not help you feel good so you should STOP eating them.
After I read Morgan the book she ate all her pasta and chicken for dinner and then had three helpings of salad! And then she went around and sweet-talked all 4 adults at the table into giving her the broccoli out of their salads! When she was out with Daddy for some weekend fun, she wouldn't let him take her to McDonalds, Burger King, Carl's Jr., etc. She finally agreed to a turkey sandwich , but apparently spent the whole meal scolding Jon for drinking a coke.
She won't eat anything anymore without knowing what light it is.
I know that Morgan won't maintain her hard-line nutritional stance forever, but I love how this book helped her to think about food in ways other than just what tastes good. She's also been interested in how the body works, the senses, and the digestive, circulatory and immune systems so this nutrition book is a great compliment to those sorts of books!
Its also a plus that the little girl in the book looks very much like Mo!
