The popcorn chain is a little bit shorter today...

But I guess if Zachary had to eat anything from the christmas tree, I'm glad that was it! He's also only shattered one ornament and only unwrapped one present so far. Not bad, but he still has 3 more days to wreak havoc.

Chirstmas Countdown

Less than a week to go and Morgan is getting excited. She's been getting ready all month.
We made a chain to count down the days.

She and Daddy decorated a beautiful (and yummy) gingerbread house.

And a wreath! Morgan visited Santa Claus at the mall. She told him that she wanted "a horn for [her] bike and a jump rope". I think he'll come through.

Last weekend Morgan helped decorate our Christmas tree!
And she became a Christmas tree.

Career Counseling

Morgan: Maybe I won't be a firefighter when I grow up. Maybe I will be a police officer!

Me: Like Uncle Todd!

Morgan: Yes. Except I won't be a man! What do police officers do?

Me: Well, they help keep people safe. And they make sure everyone follows the rules.

Morgan: The.......rules?

Me: Yes. Are you good at following rules?

Morgan: ummmmmmmm.......maybe I won't be a police officer!

Happy Halloween!

Exciting night!

Morgan & Zach got to experience their first big-ish earthquake last night. I don't think Zach would have noticed if I had not moved to get in the doorway. Morgan on the other hand was very scared. She thought it was a "big, scary monster". Poor girl. Luckily, there was no damage here - except for bedtime which was completely demolished!

Firefighter Mo

Morgan wants to be a firefighter when she grows up. She thinks firefighting is a good job because she would get to be on a team and she could save people when dragons start fires. Dragons figure a lot in her world view these days. This weekend we went to the fire station open house which was a blast. We saw a "jaws of life" demonstration, learned about home fire safety, and went to "firefighter school" where they showed a video about fighting fires. Morgan is also going to be a firefighter for Halloween. Which is appropriate, since Zach will be a dragon.

Zach talks, we listen.

Zach has words now! And his favorite one is "No!". Its the word he uses the most consistantly in the proper context. Think we say that a lot around here? Ha ha. He also seems to just like the way it sounds as he frequently walks around the house singing "No! Noooo! Nooooooo! No! Nooooooo!" He also says "wa-wa" for water, "ball", "bike", "bye" and "Hi!"- which was also Morgan's first word. I guess we say that one a lot too! He also has a lot of half-words and semi-specific grunts. And he babbles all the time. It is rarely quiet around here!

Bug Girl

Morgan: Mommy, can I h ave a 'tainer?
Me: Ummm, a tainer?
Morgan: Yeah! I need a 'tainer! With a lid!
Me: Ooooh. A CON-tainer.
Morgan: Right! A 'tainer. For my 'lection.
Me: Your lection?
Morgan: Yes, Mommy. I need a 'tainer for my 'lection!
Me: What is a lection, exactly?
Morgan: My BUG 'lection, Mom! I'm a bug 'lector and I need a 'tainer for all the bugs that I 'lect!

Of course. Morgan is now the best bug collector at the park. She and her friend Hannah hunt for snails, "roly-polies", and ladybugs every morning and then take them on adventures. They take their bugs out onto the soccer field, let them climb up trees, take them on the slides.. They even gave a roly-poly a ride on the swings! Then they put their bugs back where they found them so they can "be with their brothers and sisters". Such good little bug 'lectors!

Look at this! I caught Zach trying to read the last page of Harry Potter! Naughty!

Seriously, Zach loves to read and be read to. This is quite a relief to me because I one of the things I feel most guilty about is not having read to Zach in his first year nearly as much as I read to Morgan. But, luckily, he has really started to love his books.

He can sign book. Well, is doesn't really look like the sign for book, but we know what he means. And when he wakes up in the morning - around 5 or 6 am these days - he likes to get right in my face and sign "book" while shouting "buh! buh!" That's a little too early for me.

Zach loves his bedtime stories too. I ususally read him 3 books. 3 times each. Then I have to hide the books and convince Zach that they are "all gone" before he will go to sleep. Recently, he figured out that I was hiding them under the chair. Gotta get a better hiding spot.

The party!

Sorry for the delay! Here are the birthday party pictures!

This is Zach opening presents from Grandpa Cars & Gramma K on Thursday.

This is Zach all dressed up for his luau on Friday.

This is Zach getting very excited about his new bike.

This is Zach trying out his new bike.

This is Zach clapping for the potty Morgan gave him.

This is the cake from Safeway because I was too sick to bake anything.

This is Morgan right before she threw up.

First, Zach mushed the cake.

Then he threw some on the floor.

Then he tasted it.

Then he licked the plate clean!
